Two extra storeys for the Rotunda?

Proposal Construction of two additional storeys above existing commercial building to provide 12 flast, with associated cycle store.
The Civic Society feels that the addition of two addional storeys would visually damage a well designed and detailed building. It will be a serious overdevelopment of one of the best modern buildings within the townscape.

Although not in the conservation area the building is adjacent to a fine grouping of Grade Il listed buildings and structures. The benefit of providing a small number of one bedroom apartments does not in our view outweigh the not inconsiderable harms.

We would welcome the input of the Council's Design & Conservation officer on this application.
